What is a SCITT?

SCITT stands for School Centered Initial Teacher training and what that means is your programme is based around schools. You spend a great deal of time learning and working in schools, learning from practicing teachers, seeing how they developed into the practitioner that they are and what you need to do to become a teacher that can really impact on students’ lives.

SCITTs award their own Qualified teacher Status (QTS) which means that they have an unusual amount of control and autonomy. We adapt our course so that it is constantly meeting your needs. If we identify a need, then we can refocus our course to meet your need. This means that the course is tailored to provide you the experience that you need to become the best practitioner you can be.

In addition the the QTS that we award, you also receive your Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). We are partnered with the University of Leicester and they deliver the PGCE component of the course directly to you.

This means that you receive the best of both worlds – an immersive and extended experience in schools as well as working to the academic rigor expected of anyone working with the University of Leicester. We believe this approach allows you the time, experience, support and expertise needed to become an excellent teacher who changes children’s’ lives.
